Miss
Rumples
|
This is Miss Claudia Rumples, a
15-1/2 year old apricot toy poodle, and headmistress at
the orphanage bearing her name.
Miss Rumples was an orphan herself 13 years ago when her
previous
humans felt they had one dog too many and decided she
would be the one to go. She had been abused, was bald
and skinny, but, even at the beginning, was always full
of love.
Miss Rumples is now
blind and deaf, but she never forgot what it's like
to be abandoned and welcomes the orphans to her home.
When the new
orphans are too frightened to respond to people, Miss
Rumples will reach out to them and show them that they
are safe and loved.

Lola is Miss
Rumples' shih-tzu sister. We don't know her exact age, but
we think she's about 17. Lola was a puppy mill breeding dog
who was
dumped on the street when they were through with her. She
came into the orphanage in very bad condition, nearly blind
from hair matts that glued her eyes shut and very
frightened.
Lola is now completely blind and is losing her hearing.
But she's a
happy girl and loves to play with the frightened orphans.

El Fuego is Miss
Rumples' seven year old brother. He's a 4-1/2 lb.
pomeranian/maltese mix who lost his home when his people
lost their
home. He was taken to the Yonkers Animal Shelter where we
found him.
Fuegs prefers people to other dogs and is happiest when
people are holding him and talking about his remarkable
looks. |

This is Strider, our 4
year old bad-boy pom. Stri, named after Ursula
Strider, a devoted rescuer friend, has been known to take a
nip or two, not at the bottle, but at passing pant legs. But
when this boy loves, it's with all of his little pom heart
and that's what counts most - around here anyway. |
This is Miss
Rumples' brother, Bugsy, the cat. Bugsy came to us three
years ago from Dina, the cat rescuer. We told Dina we needed
a cat who would be great with new dog orphans constantly
coming and going. That was our priority. We also requested
our cat be black and white - although that was not a
priority. Dina brought us Bugsy who turned out to be perfect
in every way. He plays with the orphans, shares mom's bed
with them and -amazingly enough - relieves himself in the
toilet! We don't know where he learned that from, but we
think it's very cute.
Anyone looking for a dog-friendly cat would be well advised
to contact
Dina at:
