How You Can Help

Sponsor an orphan today!

Your donations will be used for veterinary care, food, grooming, transportation fees, adoption fees and general costs associated with the care of each orphan. See below for more information. If you wish to sponsor a specific orphan seen on this website, please note their name on your donation and we will be sure to list your name as that dog's sponsor. Any amount is greatly appreciated and much needed to continue our rescue of the many orphans in need. Thank you!

The May 25th Mayors Alliance Event in Central Park

MRO volunteer Megan, holding Diego, the chi mix she is fostering at the 5/25 Mayor's Alliance Event in Central Park.

Looks like these troopers have found a bear cub in the park.

Actually, it's our former orphan Peanut, the pomeranian, being held by his new dad, Jay.

MRO volunteer Manny F. shows Sydney (a Brussels Griffon/Poodle mix) to Ruby and her mom. Manny found Sydney homeless on the streets of the Bronx and brought her to us. Sydney was completely vetted and groomed prior to meeting Ruby and family. They've adopted Sydney and everyone's very happy about it.

MRO volunteer Laura holds Fuego, our own little maltese pomeranian mix and adoptive brother to Miss Rumples, the poodle.

MRO volunteers Doreen and Jay, holding Ticia, a one year old shihtzu seeking the perfect home and Peanut, now happily placed with her dad.

Here's our adorable 5 lb. Maltese Lexie as she greets passersby.

MRO volunteer Ruth M. holds orphan Lexie (a maltese) while assisting an interested party. Lexie has since been adopted by Meryl. Both of them bonded immediately.

Many thanks to Barrie & Andy Atkin and Diane Bellora for their generous donations.

Their donations helped us save our precious little Peanut (pictured left) who needed extensive veterinary care.

Foster mom June with Pompomboy, a 3 year-old pomeranian.

Foster mom Becky with Hannah, a 5 year-old shih-tzu.

Volunteer foster mom Kris Gilman with (left to right) Sophie, Jackie, and Tut.

The Gilman family, who just adopted Jackie (center chi above) responded to our desperate need for foster homes by taking in Sophie and Tut for fostering. Their kindness made the difference between Sophie and Tut going to the pound or "chilling" in a loving, nurturing VT farmhouse until we find suitable permanent homes.

Volunteers play a very important role in our organization. We can use  your help  - on a temporary OR permanent basis - in the following areas:

  • Provide a foster home for an orphan,  either short or long term.  We have very limited space at the Orphanage.  The more foster homes we have, the more orphans we can save!
  • Help transport a dog from a desperate situation to the safety of  Miss Rumples' Orphanage.  We have many volunteers who participate in this effort, so that orphans can be transported over long distances.  Each driver takes a portion of the trip, meeting alongside roads and highways to pass the orphans to the next in line.  (This is an invaluable help as most of our orphans do not originate in New York City and would be helplessly stranded in kill shelters in far away places, while there are homes waiting for them here!)
  • If you don't have a car, you can still help!  We desperately need assistance transporting the dogs from foster homes and Miss Rumples' Orphanage to our local vet for exams, neutering and vaccinations. ( These are all small dogs and can be taken in carriers on buses and subways.  Help here would be greatly appreciated.)
  • Home Checkers are of great importance!  These are the individuals who visit the homes of potential adopters to help them prepare for the arrival of their new dog.
  • Reference Checkers help by telephoning and documenting adoption applicants' references.
  • Photographers are needed to photograph our orphans  for our web page.  (Photography credits gladly given.)  We really could use the talent of a photographer to bring out the personality and potential of  each orphan.  (We've seen a great photo  make the difference between a dog being adopted or passed over.)
  • Sponsors are always needed to  help towards veterinary bills and maintenance of the orphans.  Most of the orphans arrive in very bad stages of neglect and veterinary costs can really add up.  While we  charge an adoption fee to offset some of these costs, it rarely covers our expenses, which include transportation, shelter adoption fees, prime quality and special dietary foods prescribed once they are in our care, grooming, wee wee pads, phone costs, etc.
